Our eco sponges are 100% compostable, and are perfect for a zero waste kitchen as they are completely plastic free. Our sponges have 8 layers, and are made solely from cotton and burlap. These sponges have a burlap backing for scrubbing tough to clean pots and pans. The burlap is recycled from fair trade coffee sacks that we source from local coffee roasters. Burlap scrubs efficiently, but does not damage surfaces. The other side of the sponge is made from cotton terry toweling. The sponge is stuffed with more terry toweling and absorbent cotton batting. (We ensure that our labels and thread are cotton, as well). Unlike cheap plastic sponges, which need to replaced regularly as they become unhygienic rather quickly, these eco sponges can be put in the dish washer or washing machine with your kitchen towels!
To prolong the life of your eco sponge, wring it out and allow it to air dry after every use.
When it reaches the end of its life (4-6 months), simply cut your sponge into strips and throw it in with your compost!
